Columbus Crew SC News Release
COLUMBUS, Ohio - Regular-season champ Hyena Pride capped a perfect season in the inaugural Columbus Crew Adult Soccer League with a 4-1 win over Columbus United in the CCASL Final Sunday (Nov. 24) at the Crew Training Center at Obetz.
Hyena Pride steamrolled its way to the title, winning all nine games it played - seven in the regular season and two playoff contests - and outscoring its opponents by a prodigious 58-6 margin. It will receive winners' T-shirts, recognition at a 2003 Crew home game and their team name - along with future league winners - on a trophy that will remain on permanent display at Crew Stadium.
Sponsored by the original Hoggy's Roadside Grill (2234 West Dublin-Granville Road), the Columbus Crew Adult Soccer League, was comprised of 10 co-ed teams playing seven games each. It kicked off on October 15 at Perry Park in Worthington and the top four teams made the playoffs.
Hiroshi Takakusaki scored two of the Hyena Pride goals in the final and finished as the CCASL's top goal-scorer, with 17. Jason Goggins, who scored the lone Columbus United goal on Sunday finished second with 15. The Top 5 was rounded out by Kevin Fischer, Hyena Pride (14); Mike Pugh, Emanon (12); and Mark Kissling, Crew (11).
In Thursday's (Nov. 21) semifinal matches, top-seeded Hyena Pride shut out No. 4 Emanon, 3-0, and No. 3 Columbus United topped the second-seeded Brickyard Ballers, 2-1.
