Pittsburgh Xplosion News Release

PITTSBURGH, Jan. 24, 2006 - Armon Gilliam of the Pittsburgh Xplosion has been selected to play for the East in the American Basketball Association All-Star Game next month. Gilliam is leading the Xplosion with 22 points and 9 rebounds per game as Pittsburgh's starting center.

Before joining the Pittsburgh Xplosion this season, the 6' 9" Bethel Park resident starred in the NBA for 13 years, averaging 13.7 points and 6.9 rebounds and playing for six teams: the Phoenix Suns, Philadelphia 76ers, Charlotte Hornets, New Jersey Nets, Milwaukee Bucks and Utah Jazz. Gilliam, known as "The Hammer," starred in college for the University of Nevada, Las Vegas before the Phoenix Suns made him their first-round NBA draft choice in 1987.

Gilliam joins another former NBA star, Tim Hardaway, player-coach of the ABA's Florida Pit Bulls, on the ABA East squad, which will be coached by Greg Graham, head coach of the Indiana Alley Cats, the ABA's top team with a record of 21-1. Indiana leads second-place Pittsburgh (13-9) in the ABA's Freddie Lewis Division. In mid-December, Gilliam was named ABA Player of the Week after scoring 31 points and grabbing 8 rebounds in a win over the Cleveland Rockers

"The Pittsburgh Xplosion is extremely proud that Armon Gilliam has been named to the ABA All-Star game," said Freddie Lewis, majority owner and general manager of the Xplosion, the city's new ABA team. "With his veteran leadership and strong inside game, Armon has played a key role in the team's success as the Xplosion drives for an ABA playoff berth."

The complete rosters for the ABA All-Star Game have yet to be announced. The ABA All-Star game will be played at the BankAtlantic Center in Sunrise, Florida - home of the Florida Pit Bulls - on Saturday, February 11th. For more information, visit www.abalive.com or www.pittsburghxplosion.com.
