
Xplosion win big

Pittsburgh Xplosion News Release
PITTSBURGH, FEB. 20, 2006 -- The Pittsburgh Xplosion crushed the Toledo Ice 144-121 at the Petersen Events Center tonight to secure a berth in the ABA basketball playoffs next month. Janerio Spurlock scored 35 points and Armon Gilliam added 32 as the Xplosion improved to 18-11 before a crowd of more than 1,300 fans at Catholic Schools Night. Chris Acker scored 23 with 8 assists for Pittsburgh and DeVaughn Halsel had his second consecutive double-double with 19 points and 18 rebounds for the Xplosion.
Jamel Staten led Toledo with 30 points before being ejected from the game for technical fouls and Emeka Onkonkwo scored 29. The game was close until Pittsburgh exploded for 49 points in the final quarter.
The Xplosion expect to play their first playoff game at either the Petersen Events Center or Mellon Arena. Details will be announced in the near future.
Pittsburgh wraps up its regular season home schedule next Tuesday, Feb. 28 against the Maryland Nighthawks at Mellon Arena. The game tips off at 7 p.m.
