Pittsburgh Xplosion News Release
PITTSBURGH, March 11, 2008 - Out of Albert White's 21 points Tuesday night, or his 503 during the regular season, perhaps no three were bigger than the jumper he hit with eight minutes to play. The Xplosion were tied at 98 with the East Kentucky Miners after trailing by as many as 17 in the first half. White's three from the right side put the Xplosion ahead to stay on their way to a 129-121 victory in a one-game playoff to advance to the CBA American Conference Finals.
"Albert White is a guy I have a lot of confidence in," Xplosion head coach Carlos Knox said. White added eight assists and four steals to his 21 points.
With the victory, the Xplosion now advance to the conference finals to face the Minot Skyrockets in a best-of-three series. Dates and times are still to be determined.
The Miners jumped on the Xplosion right from the outset, holding the lead throughout the first half. East Kentucky led, 32-20, after the first.
East Kentucky expanded that lead to 17 after a Steve Thomas three-point play gave the Miners a 42-25 lead at the 8:23 mark of the second period. Pittsburgh cut the lead to 10 at 3:45 on a Tyrone Anderson bucket. He capped the first half with a steal and lay-in to cut the Miners' halftime lead to three at 54-51. Anderson scored seven points in the first half, all in the second quarter. John DeGroat led all scorers in the first half with 15 points, and led the Xplosion with 31 for the evening.
East Kentucky's Jason McLeish led all scorers with 34 points.
The Xplosion took their first lead of the night early in the third period on a Lincoln Glass jumper at 56-55. Glass finished with 19 points on 9-of-12 shooting, and he added six assists.
The lead switched hands numerous times throughout the third period, with the Xplosion leading by as many as six. East Kentucky's Josh Pace, who finished with 17 points, had just hit a jumper to tie the score at 98 prior to White's three.
