Memphis Xplorers News Release
SOUTHAVEN, Miss.âThe Memphis Xplorers will participate again in The Baddour Center's 3rd Annual "Miracle Drive" Golf Tournament at the new Tunica National Golf and Tennis Club on Wednesday, June 16.
All fees will be used to benefit The Baddour Center, a non-profit residential community for men and women with mental retardation. The Center's 120-acre facility in Senatobia, Miss. provides living and work opportunities for these special men and women within a pastoral setting.
"We strive to promote residents' maximum growthâmentally, spiritually, socially and emotionally," Baddour Special Events Coordinator Julie Bailey said. "Our main goals are to offer each person an opportunity to achieve personal goals, enjoy lifelong friendships, and realize their greatest potential in every area of their lives."
The four-man scramble format tournament begins with lunch provided by Amerigo restaurant at noon, followed by a shotgun start at 1 p.m. Registration fees are $600 per 4-man team or $150 per person, are tax-deductible and include lunch by Amerigo.
The new, state-of-the-art Tunica National Course is a 7,210-yard, par 72 championship course designed by professional golfer Mark McCumber & Associates.
Winners will be chosen in each of the three flights. In addition to the tournament, games for cash and prizes will be played throughout the day, including a Hole-In-One contest for a new Infiniti FX35, courtesy of Infiniti of Memphis.
"Events like this tournament make the residents feel like they're part of a larger community," Bailey said. "They know when they meet the sponsors that they really care about them. In the case of the RiverKings, they will be fans from now on because of the good interaction they've had with the RiverKings players."
With the chapel as the campus centerpiece, The Baddour Center grounds include three lakes and 31 buildings, including 14 group homes, four duplex apartments, an administrative building with a gym and fitness center, a recreation center, a clinic, a greenhouse complex, a retail garden center and two vocational workshops.
Some residents earn money by working 30 hours per week at the garden center and workshopsâincluding a packaging facility servicing three separate companies, one of whom is FedEx. They also spend time in drama, choir and art lessons, recreational activities and hanging out with friends.
"Working here has opened my eyes to a beautiful way of life," Bailey said. "I am inspired daily by the residents' deep faith, their commitment to their work and their love for other people."
Other sponsors of the 3rd Annual Miracle Drive include FedEx, Prudential Realtors, Barnes & Petty Financial Advisors, Weston Companies, Sasquatch Outdoor Wear, Evergreen Landscape, Traditions Awards and Engraving, TDL Contractors and Olive Branch Printing.
