FRIDAY, JUNE 4
Florida Firecats 41, MACON KNIGHTS 29 (Attendance: 2,560)
MACON, Ga. - Cainon Lamb caught eight passes for 93 yards and one touchdown to lead the Florida Firecats (6-3) to a 41-29 victory over the Macon Knights (2-7) Friday night at the Macon Coliseum. Ken Mastrole completed 18 passes for 253 yards and five touchdowns with two interceptions. Glenn Mitts had a solid game on defense for the Knights intercepting a pass, forcing a fumble and recovering a fumble. Steve Gorrie rushed seven times for 40 yards and one touchdown and Victor Hall registered a sack for the Firecats. The Firecats' win moved them within one game of first place in the South Division.
SATURDAY, JUNE 5
WILKES-BARRE/SCRANTON PIONEERS 57, Manchester Wolves 41 (Attendance: 5,538)
WILKES-BARRE, Pa. - Tim Hicks completed 23 of 43 passes for 260 yards and six touchdowns with no interceptions to lead the Wilkes-Barre Scranton Pioneers (7-2) to a 57-41 victory over the Manchester Wolves (4-5) Saturday night at the Wachovia Arena at Casey Plaza. J.R. Thomas caught eleven passes for 150 yards and three touchdowns and Jurron Kelly caught five passes and recorded an interception on defense for the Pioneers. George Williams of the Wolves had three touchdown passes on four catches and Henry Frazier caught two touchdown passes. Marvin Owens recorded 8.0 tackles (7UA 2A) and broke up four passes and forced one fumble.
COLUMBUS WARDOGS 44, Birmingham Steeldogs 42 (Attendance: 2,784)
COLUMBUS, Ga. - The number one team on the af2 Coaches' Poll, the Birmingham Steeldogs (7-2), were up-ended by the Columbus Wardogs (4-5) Saturday night at the Columbus Civic Center by a score of 44-42. The Steeldogs' Detronn Harris caught seven passes for 109 yards and one touchdown along with a kickoff return for a touchdown. Birmingham's Carols McNeary brought caught two touchdown passes. Adrian Cockfield recorded ten catches for 114 yards and two touchdowns to lead the Wardogs in receiving. With one second left in the game Kyle Rowley found Reggie Jones for a seven-yard touchdown pass to give the Wardogs the victory. Columbus has defeated Birmingham at home for the second straight season.
LOUISVILLE FIRE 62, Quad City Steamwheelers 61 (Attendance: N/A)
LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The Louisville Fire (7-2) took the early lead in the Midwest Division with a 62-61 victory over the Quad City Steamwheelers (6-3) Saturday night at Freedom Hall. In the loss, Ronnie Gordon completed 20 of 26 passes for 351 yards and eight touchdowns with zero interceptions and ran for one touchdown. Carmelo Ocasio caught three of Gordon's touchdown passes for 80 yards. Takuya Furutani led the fire with ten catches for 198 yards and three touchdowns. Tim Dodge scored a touchdown with 34 seconds left, but Ryan Geisler missed the extra point which would have tied the game. Geisler's had a shot at redemption, but his 51 field goal attempt to give the Steamwheelers' the victory fell short.
Bossier-Shreveport Battle Wings 67, MEMPHIS XPLORERS 28 (Attendance: )
SOUTH HAVEN, Miss. - Playing without starting quarterback Brian Jones and OS Kevin Prentiss the Memphis Xplorers (4-5) scored the first sixteen points of the game, only to score twelve more for the rest of the contest as the Bossier-Shereveport Battle Wings (3-7) defeated the Xplorers 67-28 Saturday night at the DeSoto Civic Center. Sherard Poteete completed 20 passes for 279 yards and seven touchdowns with no interceptions while running for another score. Bo Smith caught nine passes for 155 yards and five touchdowns. Ryan Karr of the Xplorers forced two fumbles and recorded 5.0 tackles. In his first game international player Takeshi Shinjo rushed for a touchdown.
GREEN BAY BLIZZARD 57, Peoria Pirates 29 (Attendance: 2,924)
GREEN BAY, Wis. - Despite playing without Randall Lane due to injury the Green Bay Blizzard (4-5) defeated the Peoria Pirates (3-6) 57-29 Saturday night at the Resch Center. DeRonn Finley made up for the loss of Lane by catching four touchdowns. Robert Garth caught three passes for 33 yards but made big plays on defense and special teams. He picked up a blocked Peoria field goal for a touchdown to end the half and recorded two interceptions, one he returned 40 yards for a touchdown. Milton Bowen and Brand Campbell both had interceptions for the Pirates while Casey Urlacher added a rushing touchdown for Peoria.
TENNESSEE VALLEY VIPERS 36, Arkansas Twisters 23 (Attendance: 4,338)
HUNTSVILLE, Ala. - The Tennessee Valley Vipers (6-3) scored the first 20 points of the game and never looked back, defeating the Arkansas Twisters (1-8) 36-23 Saturday night at the Von Braun Center. Josh Kellett completed 20 of 31 passes for 152 yards and four touchdowns with zero interceptions. Jerrian James caught seven passes for 46 yards and three touchdowns and added another touchdown on a 56-yard kickoff return. Kevin Williams completed 19 passes for 180 yards and two touchdowns with one interception for the twisters. In five years of competition the Arkansas have yet to defeat the Tennessee Valley.
TULSA TALONS 62, Wichita Stealth 49 (Attendance: 4,198)
TULSA, Okla. - Playing without Mitch Allner due to an injury the Tulsa Talons (6-3) defeated the Wichita Stealth (6-3) 62-49 Saturday night at the Tulsa Convention Center to move in to a tie with Wichita for second place in the Southwest Division. Robert Reed caught fourteen passes for 147 yards and four touchdowns. Damon Thompson for the Stealth reeled in seven passes for 116 yards and five touchdowns. Brian Livingston returned a kickoff 49 yards for a touchdown. Both quarterbacks, Jonathan Beasley and Bob Bees, threw six touchdown passes and one interception. Toby Moeves recorded an interception for the Talons and David Hurst intercepted a pass for the Stealth.
Oklahoma Yard Dawgz 66, LAREDO LAW 41 (Attendance: 3,133)
LAREDO, TEXAS - In a Southwest Division battle the Oklahoma City Yard Dawgz (7-2) beat the Laredo Law (2-7) 66-41 at the Laredo Entertainment Center. Craig Strickland completed 19 of 27 passes for 206 yards and four touchdowns with zero interceptions. Kris Peters caught seven passes for 101 yards and two touchdowns while returning a field goal for 42 yards and two kickoffs for 62 yards. Al Hunt had a an interception and fumble recovery for the Yard Dawgz. For the Law, Rocky Perez threw for 316 yards and three touchdowns with one interception. Traco Rachal recorded his fifth interception on the season
BAKERSFIELD BLITZ 52, Hawaiian Islanders 44 (Attendance: 5,103)
BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - The Bakersfield Blitz (6-3) defeated the Hawaiian Islanders (5-4) 52-44 to take the lead in the West Division Saturday night at Centennial Garden. Bakersfield entered the fourth quarter down by six points but scored the first three touchdowns of the quarter to take control of the game. Chad Elliot completed 26 passes for 399 yards and eight touchdowns with two interceptions. Nathan Munson recorded two receiving touchdowns and intercepted a pass on defense. For the Islanders, Anthony Arceneaux caught six passes for 106 yards and one touchdown while returning one kickoff back for a touchdown. Quarterback Darnell Arceneaux rushed for two touchdowns and threw for three more while Josh Robinson intercepted two passes.
San Diego Riptide 45, CENTRAL VALLEY COYOTES 24 (Attendance: 2,246)
FRESNO, Calif. - The San Diego Riptide (4-5) defense intercepted four passes, with two by Nakoa McElrath, to guide San Diego to a 45-24 victory over the Central Valley Coyotes (1-8) Saturday night at Selland Arena. Matt Guarida rushed six times for 46 yards and two touchdowns while Ryan Cuthbert also added two rushing touchdowns to lead the Riptide offense. Kenyatte Morgan was held scoreless for the Coyotes but did bring in nine catches for 109 yards. LaMonte Jones provided the two receiving touchdowns for the Coyotes. San Diego, winners of three straight, moves within one game of the Islanders for second place in the West Division.
SUNDAY, JUNE 6
Cape Fear Wildcats 78, ALBANY CONQUEST 51 (Attendance: 5,119)
ALBANY, N.Y. - Matt Burstein had seven catches for 157 yards and four touchdowns to lead the Cape Fear Wildcats (5-3) over the Albany Conquest (3-6) 78-51 Sunday afternoon at the Pepsi Arena. Chris McKinney also had three receiving touchdowns and registered a safety on defense. Mitch Galloway picked off a pass and recovered a fumble for Cape Fear. On defense for the Conquest, Travis Coleman had two interceptions. Tony Locke was limited to two catches and one touchdown but did return one kickoff back for a touchdown. Cy Butler had two rushing touchdowns for Albany. The Cape Fear win means Albany is still winless all-time against the Wildcats.
