
"Wild About Reading" Summer Reading Program Kicks Off

Monday, June 7th - Kern County Library, KGET-TV 17, and the Bakersfield Blitz kick off the "Wild About Reading" Summer Reading Program. Students who read a minimum of 10 books during the program will receive two free terrace level tickets to the Saturday, July 31st Bakersfield Blitz game against the Hawaiian Islanders. The program runs from June 7th to July 30th. Contact the Kern County Library at 868-0750 or log on to www.kerncountylibrary.org to sign up for the program or for more information.
Thursday, June 10th - Come on down to the Holiday Inn Select for the Indoor War Report as the "Voice of the Blitz" Kevin Bartl is joined by Blitz Head Coach Rick Van Horne, as well as select Blitz players from 6:00pm - 7:00pm. The IWR is a great chance for fans to meet their favorite members of the 2004 Blitz as well as win great prizes. The Holiday Inn Select is located at the corner of Truxtun Avenue and Q Street. The show can also be heard live each week on KGEO AM 1230.
Friday, June 11th - Bakersfield Blitz mascot Crusher, the Condors Slapshot, the Blitz Football Toss and select Blitz players will be attending the Sears Logistics Company Picnic at the Delano Memorial Park from 2:00 pm - 4:30 pm. Delano Memorial Park is located at 100 Lexington Street in Delano.

Thursday, June 17th - The Downtown Business Association's Summer Street Faires continue with June's theme being "Summer Home & Arts - Hawaiian Holiday". The street faire is held the 3rd Thursday of each month, concluding in August and runs 6:30pm -9:00pm on Chester Avenue downtown Bakersfield.
Saturday, June 19th - Join Bakersfield Sports Entertainment at Mud Volleyball 2004 at Stramler Park, beginning at 8:00am. Mud Volleyball is an all day event that benefits the Epilepsy Society.
Notes:
Bakersfield Condors 2004-2005 season schedule has been announced. The Condors will open their second season in the ECHL on Friday, October 22nd 2004 against the expansion Victoria Salmon Kings. Season tickets are now available with packages starting at just $30. Stop by the Bakersfield Sport Entertainment office at Centennial Garden or call the Condors at 324-PUCK (7825) for more information.
