Bossier-Shreveport Battle Wings News Release
SOUTHAVEN, MS- The Memphis Xplorers of af2, looking to capitalize on their first win of the season, travel this Friday to Bossier City to take on their divisional rivals, the Battle Wings.
Memphis, which enters the contest at 1-1 on the season, takes on a Bossier City squad that has lost two consecutive games after winning their season opener. Despite their recent troubles, Xplorers Head Coach Danton Barto isn't taking the Battle Wings lightly.
"This is going to be a tough, physical divisional game," said Barto. "Their quarterback, Sherard Poteet, is a very dangerous playmaker. He's a guy that we're going to have to contain if we want to win this game."
The Xplorers have had considerable success against Bossier City over the course of the two franchises' histories. Since the 2001 season, Memphis has posted a 4-1 record against the Battle Wings.
However, Barto was quick to point out that both of this year's teams are different than previous seasons, and that Bossier City sports some excellent personnel on both sides of the ball.
"Their skill players are extremely fast and explosive," said Barto. "We're going to need to clamp down defensively."
With a win, the Xplorers would push their record above the .500 mark for the first time in two years.
Memphis will look for good performances once again out of their key personnel, including QB Brian Jones, who picked up his first af2 win last week against Florida. Jones, who accounted for 5 touchdowns en route to being named the Baby Ruth Real Deal Offensive Player of the Game, will try for the first arena road victory of his career.
Also looking to repeat his performance is OS Kevin Prentiss, who scored three times this past week, including one touchdown on an electrifying 58-yard TD run.
All Xplorers practices and scrimmages are open to both the public and the media. The team's practices will occur at the DeSoto Civic Center at approximately 7:30 every evening, except for travel and game days. For more information, contact media relations director Galen Clavio at 662-342-1755.
Game time is scheduled for 7:00 pm CST. All sixteen regular season Xplorers football games will be heard throughout the Mid-South on SportsPlus 790 WMC. In addition, all home games will be broadcast on X-Cast, a special in-house radio broadcast designed specifically for the DeSoto Civic Center. X-Cast airs on 107.9 FM, and can be received while in the DeSoto Civic Center by using a walkman or other personal radio.
For more information, contact the Xplorers office at 662-342-1755.
