
Stealth sign former Richmond speed receiver

Wichita, Kan. - The Wichita Stealth today announced that they have been assigned offensive specialist Damon (Da-mon) Thompson. Thompson played the past two seasons with the Richmond Speed of arenafootball2. Thompson will make his debut in a Wichita uniform this Saturday night when the Stealth (3-0) face the Green Bay Blizzard (1-1).
Thompson (5-10, 182, Virginia State) finished last season with 122 receptions for 1,569 yards and 27 touchdowns for Richmond. He was 3rd in af2 in receptions, 4th in receiving yards per game, 4th in receiving yards, and 4th in all-purpose yards. He was named the af2 Offensive Player of the Week last year for his week six performance against the Greensboro Prowlers. In that game, Thompson caught 18 passes (second best single game total in af2 history) for 225 yards and five touchdowns. In his 19 game af2 career, Thompson has caught 155 passes for 1,961yards and 33 touchdowns.
Thompson attended college at Virginia State University and was a finalist for the Harlon Hill trophy (NCAA Division II Player of the Year award) in 1998, 1999, and 2000.
He finished his college career by setting school and CIAA (Central Intercollegiate Athletics Association) records of 268 receptions and 4,387 receiving yards. He was named the CIAA Receiver of the Week seven times and he was a three-time All-CIAA pick, as well as a three-time Black All-America. He was named the CIAA Offensive Player of the Year in 1998 and 1999 and was first team All-CIAA as a receiver and a kick returner.
Thompson was named to the 1998 Little All-America team that included former Stealth offensive/defensive lineman John Hesse, also a former Emporia State product, and 1998 Harlon Hill Trophy winner Brian Shay from Paola, Kansas and also from Emporia State. Another notable included on the team was quarterback Chris Griesen. Griesen will step on the field Saturday night in Wichita as a member of the Green Bay Blizzard.
STEALTH NOTES: After this Saturday's game, the Stealth will enjoy their first bye week of the 2004 season before hitting the road for three weeks when they travel to face the Rio Grande Valley Dorados on May 8th, the Quad City Steamwheelers on May 15th, and the Oklahoma City Yard Dawgz on May 22nd.The next Stealth home game is set for May 29th versus the Laredo Law.
