Steamwheelers remain top choice in week four poll

April 21, 2004 - arenafootball2 (af2) News Release

CHICAGO - For the fourth straight week, the Quad City Steamwheelers earned the No. 1 spot in the af2 Coaches' Poll, the league office announced today. The Steamwheelers earned 285 of a possible 288 points, including 23 first-place votes.

With 229 total points and second spot in the poll is the Wichita Stealth, who earned one first-place vote. Behind the Stealth in the third spot is the Louisville Fire with 217 points and one first-place vote. With a big 75-39 win over Green Bay, the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Pioneers have climbed from the 11th spot to seventh in this week's poll. Hawaii beat Bossier-Shreveport 63-60 on Saturday night and climbed from No. 8 to No. 6 in this week's rankings. New to the Top 12 this week is Birmingham in the 10th spot and Columbus at No. 12.

This week's schedule includes three matchups of Top 12 teams. The No. 12 Wardogs play at No. 10 Birmingham on Friday at 8:30 p.m. No. 1 Quad City takes on No. 7 Pioneers Saturday at 7:00 p.m. and No. 8 Cape Fear faces No. 9 Florida Saturday at 7:30 p.m. The entire Week 4 Coaches' Poll is listed below. The number in parentheses following the total points indicates the number of first place votes the team received.

Each week during the season af2 coaches vote for the Top 12 teams in the league by ranking them one through 12 on a ballot. Teams ranked first receive 12 points with the point value decreasing by one for each place below first, meaning a team ranked 12th receives one point. Total points determine the Top 12 list. In the event of a tie in total points, the team with the greater number of first-place votes is ranked higher. The af2 Coaches' Poll is announced every Wednesday during the regular season. Coaches are not allowed to vote for their own team and the poll results have no bearing on postseason qualification.
