BattleWings host pre-season game for Haiti Relief
February 26, 2010 - Arena Football League (AFL)
Bossier-Shreveport Battle Wings News Release
BOSSIER CITY, LA (February 25, 2010) - It was announced today that KSLA, The Radio Group, and the Bossier-Shreveport BattleWings will present the BattleWings hosting the Dallas Vigilantes in an AFL pre season game Sunday, March 21st at the CenturyTel Center in Bossier City. $5 of every ticket sold will go directly to the Red Cross for Haitian relief. Jason Coffel, BattleWings Director of Operations said, "All BattleWings season ticket holders will get their tickets to this game absolutely free. Every other ticket in the CenturyTel Center will be assigned seating, but will be priced at just $10, of which half goes to the Red Cross."
This will be the first appearance of the BattleWings playing in the Arena Football League (AFL), a league that canceled its 2009 season and which previously owned half of af2 - the league in which the BattleWings played for 10 years. BattleWings head man Jon Norris said, "Our fans will see some familiar BattleWings players from the past, but will meet a bunch of new players that have previously played in the AFL and the NFL. "We've really had to step our talent level up a notch," Norris continued, "We will have completed our first full week of training camp. These guys will all be fighting for their jobs, so fans are going to see a really competitive game."
BattleWings owner Dan Newman talking about the devastation from the earthquake in Haiti said, "Citizens of the Ark-La-Tex are not strangers at dealing with the aftermath of disasters. We've had our own in the likes of tornadoes, flooding, and hurricanes. This will give us a direct opportunity through our friend at the Red Cross to reach out a helping hand to our brothers and sisters in Haiti who have lost everything in many cases." Newman continued, "I cannot say enough about our friends at KSLA and The Radio Group who when asked to be partners in this effort jumped at the opportunity to make this event happen. Based on the capacity at the CenturyTel Center, we could easily present a $50,000 check to the Red Cross at halftime, IF we can sell every seat."
All tickets are priced at $10, and while all are reserved seats, are sold on a best-available basis for this game. Tickets are available at the BattleWings office at 4400 Barksdale Boulevard, by calling 318-746-8755, at www.ticketmaster.com after 6:00 P.M. Friday, February 26th, or at www.battlewings.com.
The BattleWings begin their 2010 regular season by hosting the Alabama Vipers April 3rd at the CenturyTel Center. Kickoff for that game is 5:00 P.M. Season tickets are still available by calling 318-746-8755.
