BattleWings Make Unprecedented Move in Bossier-Shreveport
July 6, 2010 - Arena Football League (AFL)
Bossier-Shreveport Battle Wings News Release
BOSSIER CITY, LA (Tuesday, July 06, 2010) - In an effort to share the excitement of the Arena Football League (AFL), the Bossier-Shreveport BattleWings will be distributing 5,000 FREE TICKET VOUCHERS at various business locations throughout the city for the July 24th home game against the Jacksonville Sharks.
In the 1990's, the Shreveport Pirates played at Independence Stadium and, in their first year of play, sold over 23,000 season tickets. This year, it was announced that the Bossier-Shreveport BattleWings would make the transition from lower-tier af2, to the AFL - the highest level of indoor football and second only to the NFL in skill level and league tenure. The move required a huge commitment of time, energy, and resources from everyone involved in team operations. Owner, Dan Newman, challenged the city to respond to the investment by "filling the arena and showing the AFL that Bossier-Shreveport is ready for major league sports."
"Even if the BattleWings don't win the game, it's the most exciting entertainment in town," said Jason Coffel, Director of Operations, whose goal this year was to have crowds of 8,000 in attendance at the BattleWings' games at the CenturyTel Center. He continued, "There is NOTHING in this town that can hold a candle to an AFL game; the excitement, the action, the adrenaline.and all for LESS than the cost of a night at the movies."
As a late season attempt at their goal, the BattleWings announced on Tuesday that they would be giving away 5,000 tickets to the July 24th home game against the Jacksonville Sharks, one of the highest ranked teams in the league. When asked about the difference a large home crowd makes to the players, Head Coach Jon Norris said, "It makes all the difference in the world. When there are thousands of people cheering for you, it really builds team morale. And then when those same fans give the visiting team a hard time, it just fuels the guys on the field." "We call it the 9th Man," added Owner, Dan Newman referring to fans. He continued, "The fans are an integral part of this game and nowhere can they get closer to the action and closer to the players than in arena football."
The July 24th game will be at the CenturyTel Center in Bossier City with a 7:05 PM kickoff. FREE TICKETS are available by calling (318) 746-8755 or you can find them at various locations throughout Shreveport and Bossier over the next couple of weeks. Locations will be announced on www.battlewings.com. The free vouchers will be redeemable for seats in the "Green Zone" located in the upper level seating of the CenturyTel Center. As an added benefit, anyone who would like to redeem a voucher, but sit in a lower section may do so at half-price when using the voucher. For more information, please contact Group Sales Specialist, Allyson Colburn or Director of Operations, Jason Coffel at (318) 746-8755.
