Memphis Xplorers News Release
SOUTHAVEN, MS- The Memphis Xplorers of af2, pursuing the first playoff berth in franchise history, will look move one step closer to that goal this Friday at ALLTEL arena in Little Rock, as they face the Arkansas Twisters.
The Xplorers (7-6), who saw a three-game winning streak snapped two weeks ago by the Northeast Division-leading Cape Fear Wildcats, will attempt to win for the second time this season against Arkansas. That accomplishment would represent an impressive reversal in fortune, as the Xplorers had never defeated the Twisters prior to the start of this season. The Twisters own the all-time series against the Xplorers, having won five of six games
In addition, the Xplorers will look to bring themselves within striking distance of the team's first-ever playoff berth. Memphis controls a great deal of their destiny with only three regular season games left. With a win this Friday night, the Xplorers can eliminate two of the five teams competing for a playoff spot, including the Manchester Wolves and division rival Bossier-Shreveport.
Memphis currently has a one game lead for the sixth and final playoff spot in the American Conference over the Columbus Wardogs, who face off against the Xplorers in the final game of the regular season. Arkansas (2-11), long since eliminated from playoff contention, will look to play the role of spoiler.
Arkansas WR Ted Alford will not be with the Twisters for the remainder of the season, after signing a one year contract with the Calgary Stampeders of the CFL. Alford leads the team in TD receptions, receiving yards, and receiving yards per game. He also ranks tenth in the league in all purpose yards
Game time is set for 7:30 PM CST. All sixteen regular season Xplorers football games will be heard throughout the Mid-South on SportsPlus 790 WMC, and worldwide on SportsJuice.com. In addition, all home games will be broadcast on X-Cast, a special in-house radio broadcast designed specifically for the DeSoto Civic Center. X-Cast airs on 107.9 FM, and can be received while in the DeSoto Civic Center by using a walkman or other personal radio. Fans can also watch the Xplorers during selected games during the season on AF2TV.com, which offers live streaming video and audio on a pay-per-view basis.
