Modesto Nuts News Release
San Bernardino, CA. - Jack Wynkoop's efficiency led the Modesto Nuts to a 2-0 victory over the Inland Empire 66ers on Sunday night at San Manuel Stadium.
Wynkoop (W, 5-2) worked six shutout innings and used just 50 pitches in his start for the Nuts (22-28; 48-72). He retired the first six he faced before a leadoff double. Then he sent the next nine down in order while giving up just two total hits and striking out six with no walks.
Josh Fuentes and Wes Rogers led the early offensive charge. Fuentes smacked a first-inning solo home run with two outs. Rogers drove in another two-out run with a single in the second against 66ers' (18-32; 41-79) starter Jeremy Rhoades (L, 4-12).
The Nuts' bullpen did not allow a hit and Luis Niebla (S, 12/12) tossed a perfect ninth to give the Nuts a three-game series victory.
The Nuts return home on Monday to begin a seven-game homestand with a four-game series against the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes. Game one starts at 7:05 p.m. Coverage on ModestoNuts.com will start at 7:00 p.m. Listen live online.
