Inland Empire 66ers News Release
San Bernardino, CA- Hutton Moyer and David Fletcher each tallied three-hit games and the Inland Empire 66ers got seven outstanding innings of mound work from Justin Anderson in a 6-2 win over the Modesto Nuts on Saturday at San Manuel Stadium. Anderson improved to 7-11 on the season as the Houston native allowed just one run and matched his season-high innings pitched total.
Modesto took a 1-0 lead in the top of the third when Anderson issued a walk, his only one of the night, to Troy Stein to open the frame. Max White tripled with one out to score Stein for the only run the Nuts (47-72, 21-28) could muster against Anderson. The righty finished his outing allowing just five hits with six strikeouts.
Inland Empire (41-78, 18-31) got to Nuts' southpaw Helmis Rodriguez (3-9) in the fourth when with two outs he walked Roberto Baldoquin and Ayendy Perez. Fletcher then popped a double into right field to score Baldoquin and tie the contest 1-1. Moyer followed with a single that scored two runs and pushed the Sixers' advantage to 3-1. The Sixers added three more in the seventh as Moyer and Taylor Ward each singled with one out against reliever Craig Schlitter. With two down Jeff Boehm lashed a liner to center that Nuts' CF Max White dove for but came up empty and the ball went to the wall for a two-run triple, Boehm's first three-bagger of the year. Michael Strentz followed with a RBI single to cap the 66ers' scoring making it 6-1. Dom Nunez did homer in the ninth against IE reliever Jason Hoppe to make it 6-2; the homer was Nunez' eighth of the year and his second hit of the night.
Ward and Zach Houchins each had two hits on the game for the 66ers who improved to 7-3 on the season against the Nuts. Inland Empire is now 23-20 this year against the California League's Northern Division.
