LANCASTER, CA - The Lancaster JetHawks used a five-run bottom of the fourth inning to take the lead before blowing the game open with an eight-run eighth on their way to a 16-2 rout of the Giants on Saturday evening at The Hangar. With the loss, San Jose (61-58) has now split the first two games of their series in Lancaster.

Dylan Davis (1-for-4, HR, RBI) and Jonah Arenado (1-for-4, HR, RBI) each hit a solo home run to account for all of the Giants offense in defeat. San Jose was limited to four hits in the contest.

JetHawks starter Brock Dykxhoorn (8-4) notched the win after yielding just two runs (both earned) over 6 2/3 innings. Dykxhoorn surrendered four hits, walked two and struck out three. Shortstop Marc Wik led the Lancaster offensive attack with a 7 RBI night. Wik delivered a go-ahead three-run triple in the bottom of the fourth before smacking a grand slam in the eighth.

The Giants jumped out early as Davis launched a two-out solo home run to straightaway center field off of Dykxhoorn in the top of the first. Arenado then stepped to the plate and hammered the next pitch thrown over the wall in left center for another home run. The back-to-back blasts gave San Jose a 2-0 lead.

Mark Reyes started on the mound for the Giants and began his night with two scoreless innings. The JetHawks though would cut the San Jose lead in half with a single run in the bottom of the third. Three straight two-out singles from Myles Straw, Johnny Sewald and Drew Ferguson produced a run to bring Lancaster to within 2-1.

The JetHawks then erupted in the bottom of the fourth against Reyes as six straight hitters reached base to knock the left-hander out of the game. A one-out single from Aaron Mizell started the rally before Reyes issued consecutive walks to Trent Woodward and Brooks Marlow to load the bases. Wik was up next and he laced a hard grounder down the right field line and into the corner. The hit went for a triple as all three runners scored giving Lancaster a 4-2 lead. Straw followed with an RBI single before Sewald delivered an RBI double to make it 6-2 and end Reyes' night.

Reyes (8-7) lost his third consecutive start after he was charged with six runs (all earned) on nine hits over 3 1/3 innings. He walked two and struck out two.

Meanwhile, Dykxhoorn settled down after his early struggles and didn't allow another run for the remainder of his start. The right-hander pitched around a leadoff single in the third from Cristian Paulino. In the fourth, Mitch Delfino walked with two outs before Aramis Garcia singled, but both were stranded when Miguel Gomez grounded out. After the JetHawks took the lead, Dykxhoorn walked Daniel Carbonell to begin the top of the fifth, but quickly retired the next three hitters. Dykxhoorn returned to the mound in the sixth and set down the side in order before retiring the first two hitters of the seventh. Lancaster reliever Ralph Garza was then summoned from the bullpen to record the final out of the top of the seventh.

Carlos Diaz (2 2/3 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 4 SO) relieved Reyes in the fourth and delivered an excellent long relief outing for the Giants. The left-hander seven out of the nine batters he faced.

With the score still 6-2, Connor Overton (1/3 IP, 1 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 2 BB, 1 SO) was brought into pitch for the Giants in the bottom of the seventh, but immediately ran into trouble. Ferguson walked to begin the inning before Bryan Muniz crushed a two-run home run to left. The homer, Muniz's second of the series and 11th of the season, pushed the JetHawks lead to 8-2.

Overton was then taken out of the game two batters later with an apparent injury with Pat Young (2/3 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 1 SO) recording the final two outs of the inning.

In the bottom of the eighth, the left fielder Paulino (1/3 IP, 2 H, 6 R, 6 ER, 2 BB, 0 SO) was summoned into pitch for the Giants and he retired just one out of seven hitters faced. Two hit batters and a walk loaded the bases with one out for Lancaster before Osvaldo Duarte and Mizell produced consecutive RBI singles. Paulino then walked Woodward to force home a run making the score 11-2. Following the bases loaded walk, Jeff Soptic (2/3 IP, 1 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 1 BB, 1 SO) was called into the game, but he walked Marlow to bring home the fourth run of the inning. Wik was up next and he belted the first pitch of his at-bat over the fence in left center for a grand slam and a 16-2 JetHawks lead.

Lancaster sent 11 batters to the plate in the bottom of the eighth and scored eight runs on three hits.

Garza finished the game for the JetHawks with 2 1/3 hitless innings of relief. San Jose did not collect a hit after the fourth inning.
