THE LEAD OFF: The Power opened up the second half with a 2-1 victory over the Greensboro Grasshoppers on Thursday at Appalachian Power Park. Colten Brewer dominated the 'Hoppers with nine strikeouts over six innings to earn the win. Offensively, the Power tallied both of their runs in the second. Tito Polo drew a one-out walk, reached second on a groundout, and scored on an RBI single from Jordan Luplow. One pitch later, Connor Joe laced a double towards right-center to bring home Luplow. Following Brewer's excellent start, Jose Regalado tossed two scoreless innings and Nick Neumann notched his 11th save with a scoreless ninth.

ON THE HOP: West Virginia continues the second half with game two of the five-game series against the Greensboro Grasshoppers, Class A affiliate of the Miami Marlins. The Power have had mixed success against the Hoppers this season, losing the first two games but taking four of the next six. This five-game series is longest home series the Power have this season and will play a five-game set in Greensboro from July 8-12.

YOUNG KING COLE: West Virginia shortstop Cole Tucker is currently riding a team-best ten game hit streak. Since June 4, Tucker has a .357 batting average (15-for-42). All told, Tucker is hitting .282, good for second-best on the Power team among all qualifying batters. The 18-year-old is hitting .320 this month, his best month of the season. The first overall selection by the Pirates last year, Tucker will turn 19 on July 3.

DEUCES: West Virginia's 2-1 victory over Greensboro on Thursday night was the first time this season the Power won a game when scoring less than three runs. The Power own a 1-13 record when scoring less than three runs. West Virginia has been shutout twice this year and are 0-5 when scoring one run. The last time West Virginia scored less than three runs and won a game was August 8 of last season against Asheville when the Power won 2-1 in ten innings.

ALL-STARS SHINE IN ASHEVILLE: At the All-Star Game, Power reliever Junior Lopez worked a perfect third with a pair of strikeouts while Yeudy Garcia allowed a run on two hits in the fourth inning. Offensively, starting center fielder Elvis Escobar played the entire game and went 0-for-4 while Chase Simpson went 1-for-2 with a single in the seventh.

BREWS ON COLTEN: Thursday's starter Colten Brewer struck out nine batters over six innings to earn his second win this year. Brewer has twice faced Greensboro and is 2-0 with 20 of his 41 strikeouts this year against the Hoppers. If the rotation continues without interruption, Brewer is scheduled to face the 'Hoppers again on July 10 in Greensboro.

HIGH 'N TIGHT: Close games have been a trademark of the Power this season. Of the 70 games the Power played, 41 were decided by two runs or less. In the 11-year history of the franchise, the most games decided by two runs or less was 67 which occurred in the 2011 season.
