Arias Fans Baker's Dozen in 6-4 Loss Friday

Savannah, GA - The Lexington Legends scored three runs in the top of the ninth to defeat the Savannah Sand Gnats 6-4 Friday night at Historic Grayson Stadium.

In a 3-3 game in the ninth, the Legends (2-0/33-39) began the ninth by loading the game against reliever Alberto Baldonado (0-5) who was then replaced by Jimmy Duff. DH Chase Vallot greeted Duff by lining a single into left to drive home a run and give the Legends a 4-3 lead. Brandon Downes followed with a chopper to third, which Savannah third baseman JC Rodriguez threw passed catcher Tomas Nido to allow two more runs to score.

The Gnats (0-2/39-33) picked up a run back in the bottom of the ninth, and got the tying run to the plate, but never got the tying runs aboard.

The Gnats tied the game at 3-3 with two runs in the bottom of the eighth, scoring twice without the benefit of a hit. Second baseman Jonathan Johnson and shortstop Luis Guillorme each walked and came around to score. Guillorme walked in each of his four plate appearances.

Savannah starter Matires Arias struck out a career-high 13 batters in his 6.2 innings. He allowed three runs, two earned on four hits with three walks. All three walks came in the second inning, one of which forced home a run.

The Sand Gnats and Lexington will continue their five-game series tomorrow at 6:05 PM. Savannah will start reigning Pitcher of the Week, RHP Scarlyn Reyes (7-4, 3.05), while the Legends will send RHP Pedro Fernandez (4-0, 3.04) to the mound. Saturday will feature fireworks presented by Floor & Décor, the Sand Gnats' Boy Scout Night, and the Fleet Feet Home Run 5K in the morning . Gates for the game will open at 5 PM and the 5K kicks off at 7 AM.
