KANSAS CITY, KS (May 27, 2014) - In a battle between the 2013 MLS Supporters' Shield winner and 2013 MLS Cup Champion, the New York Red Bulls fought back to earn a 1-1 tie against Sporting Kansas City Tuesday night in front of a crowd of 19,221 at Sporting Park. Red Bulls forward Bradley Wright-Phillips notched his MLS-best 11th goal of the year five minutes into the second half to even the score, as New York broke a three-game losing streak and improved to 15 points off a 3-5-6 record.

New York has the weekend off before traveling to Gillette Stadium on Sunday, June 8 to battle the New England Revolution at 5:00 PM (TV: MSG). Tickets are on sale now for the Red Bulls' next MLS game at Red Bull Arena against Toronto FC on Friday, June 27 at 8:00 PM by calling 1.877.727.6223 or logging onto tickets.newyorkredbulls.com.

The hosts nearly took the lead in the second minute as Sporting KC defender Igor Juliao raced down the right wing with the ball and into the box before chipping it over goalkeeper Luis Robles. However, New York's Chris Duvall was there to prevent the shot from crossing the line. Soon after, Sporting's Benny Feilhaber curled a free kick over the wall that slammed off the underside of the crossbar, but did not go over the end line.

The defending MLS Cup Champions' early advances reaped rewards in the ninth minute when they opened the scoring. Toni Dovale raced towards the top of the box and fired a left-footed shot past Robles and into the lower left corner of the net to make the score 1-0.

Despite being under pressure in the first half, New York came out rejuvenated following the break and was able to equalize in the 50th minute. Thierry Henry had possession in Sporting Kansas City's defensive half and slid a well-weighted through ball to an onside Wright-Phillips, who slotted it in under Kronberg.

Both teams had chances to get the game-winner, but solid goalkeeper kept the match even. Moments after New York's tally, Kronberg came to Sporting's rescue, coming off his line to block another Wright-Phillips attempt. In the 66th minute, New York substitute Peguy Luyindula rifled a right-footed blast that Kronberg pushed aside. On the end, Robles denied Dovale's brace with a diving stop with 11 minutes to play.
