Wright-Phillips Hits 100 League Goals, Leads New York Past D.C. United

Bradley Wright-Phillips became the fastest player in MLS to reach 100 league goals and helped the New York Red Bulls (13-5-2, 41 pts) defeat D.C. United (3-8-5, 14 pts), 1-0, on Wednesday night at Red Bull Arena. The Red Bulls have three straight matches and six of their last seven.

Wright-Phillips, in just his 159th career league game, needed just 81 seconds to tally his 100th career league goal and the eventual game-winning goal.

BWP's 159 games to 100 goals surpassed previous league-record holder Taylor Twellman's 174 matches. He has also raised his career all competitions goal total to 118.

Head coach Chris Armas improved to 3-1-0 all-time and tallied his first career road victory as a MLS head coach.

The Red Bulls are now 49-39-22 all-time in the month of July. New York has scored 180 goals while allowing 163 during the seventh month of the year.

Wright-Phillips moved into a tie with Edson Buddle for 10th all-time in league history with 100 goals. It took Buddle 304 matches to reach the century mark.

BWP also moved into a three-way tie with Eddie Johnson and Jaime Moreno for 10th all-time in league history for game-winning goals with 26.

Kaku remained atop the league in assists as he raised his season total to 13. New York's No. 10 has recorded at least one assist in three-straight matches and four of the last six games.

Luis Robles needed just two saves to record his 56th career clean sheet. Robles moved into a tie with Donovan Ricketts for 10th all-time in league history for shutouts.

Robles has recorded back-to-back shutouts and his seventh in 2018.

New York returns to Red Bull Arena for back-to-back matches, beginning on Saturday, July 28 as they Columbus Crew SC. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. with coverage on MSG, MSG GO and New York Red Bulls Radio in English and Spanish on TuneIn.
