Dayton Gems News Release

DAYTON, OH - This Friday, Feb. 25, WWE superstar Jerry "The King" Lawler will be at the Dayton Gems game against Evansville at Hara Arena.

The appearance comes less than a week after Lawler came up just short in the WWE Championship match on Sunday, Feb. 20. In the WWE Championship match against The Miz, Lawler looked to have control of the match until the final moments when The Miz did a skull crushing finale and pinned The King.

The King - who has been wrestling for nearly 30 years - was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame in 2007.

Despite never winning the WWE Championship, Lawler has won 164 championships with other professional wrestling organizations throughout his career.

There will be a number of events planned for the evening that involve Lawler. Prior to the start of the game, Lawler will be in Court 1 of Hara Arena signing autographs and taking photos with fans from 6:30 - 7:15 p.m. Those in attendance can enjoy the experience for just $5 per autographed item.

Lawler will also be conducting the ceremonial puck drop before the start of the game.

During the first intermission, Lawler will be part of the on-ice entertainment. The wrestling legend will be signing autographs for fans once again during the second intermission.

Players will also be taking part in the wrestling craze for the evening by wearing special red jerseys with gold trim during the game. The gold trim follows the Jerry Lawler theme, and the Gems logo has a crown on top. All jerseys will be auctioned off after the game. The highest bidder for each jersey will have their picture taken with Lawler and a Gems player.

To see what the jerseys will look like on the night of the game, hockey and wrestling fans can visit daytongems.com to look at the jerseys' design.

With February being national heart month, the red jerseys are also an effort to raise awareness of heart disease. The slogan for the evening is "Don't Wrestle with Heart Disease." The Dayton Gems and Kettering Medical Center encourage fans to wear red to the game Friday to support heart disease awareness.

The Community Wellness Group from Kettering Medical Center will also be on the main concourse throughout the game. The group will be handing out several brochures and pamphlets about heart disease and what fans can do to prevent it.

"We are dedicated to the prevention of heart disease and heart awareness," said Beth Blank of the Kettering Medical Center. "Kettering Medical Center and its employees are 'All Heart. All the Time.'"

Performing the National Anthem on Friday will be Eric Jerardi. The Dayton based rocker has played alongside several big named performers, including B.B. King, Kenny Chesney and Keith Urban. He also shared the stage at the House of Blues with Jim Belushi.

The game against Evansville will start at 7:30 p.m. Doors will open at 6:30 for fans to enjoy the pregame activities.

The Kettering Medical Center is proud to be the official title sponsor of the Gems for the 2010-11 season.
