Americans Sweep South Texas Swing with 2-1 Victory Over Bees

ALLEN, Texas- The first place Allen Americans earned their thirty-sixth victory of the season tonight, downing the Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees 2-1 in front of 3,125 at the State Farm Arena in Hidalgo, TX.

The Americans controlled the majority of the play to start the game and jumped on top1-0 when Brian McMillin buried a puck past Bees netminder Juliano Pagliero 9:46 into the opening period.The goal was McMillin's fifth tally of the season.

Despite being outshot 14-5 in the period, the Killer Bees would tie the score at 1 with 33.9 seconds remaining in the frame when Aaron Lee's wrister found the back of net.

Colton Yellow Horn's wrister from the circle on the power play beat Pagliero and put the Americans on top 2-1 6:54 into the second period. Nino Musitelli and Jonathon Zion were credited with the assists on Yellow Horn's twenty-fifth goal of the season.

The middle frame saw no further scoring despite several prime chances for both sides. Chris Whitley finished the frame with 8 saves on 8 shots while Pagliero stopped 5 of 6.

The Killer Bees ramped up their efforts in search of the equalizer inthe final periodbut were denied by Whitley, who turned aside all 15 shots faced.Whitley finished the night with 27 saves and was named the game's second star.

Colton Yellow Horn, the game's first star, extended his point streak to nine games with his second period goal.YellowHorn has tallied 14 points (9g, 5a) during the streak.

Allen improves to 36-11-2 with thevictory and continues to lead the Berry Conference and the Central Hockey League with 74 points.

The Americans will now return home to the Allen Event Center for a pair of games this weekend. Allen will faceoff against the Texas Brahmas on Friday night at 7:30 PM before welcoming the Bloomington PrairieThunder to town Saturday at 7PM.
