Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees News Release

HIDALGO, Texas- The Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees (21-27-5) fell to the Allen Americans (36-11-2) in a hard fought one-goal game on Wednesday night. The Americans scored the lone second period goal which proved to be the difference maker after the teams took to the locker room tied at one after a period of play. Aaron Lee picked up his 16th goal of the season for the Bees.

Allen scored the first goal of the game as Brian McMillin scored his fifth goal of the season as a scrum in front of Juliano Pagliero allowed the puck to finally find the back of the net. Picking up the assists were Tobias Whelan and Iain McPhee.

It looked as if the Killer Bees would head to the locker room down a goal but Aaron Lee would take an innocent looking shot from the just inside the faceoff circle that was deflected by Allen past their own netminder, Chris Whitley. The goal came with only 33.9 seconds remaining in the period. Bo Cheesman and Darcy Campbell picked up the assists.

The Bees were outshot by a 14-5 margin in the first period with each goalie allowing one goal.

After killing off the first two Allen power-plays of the game the Americans would strike on their third opportunity. Colton Yellow Horn set up shop at the top of the faceoff circles and with plenty of traffic in front picked his spot hitting the top corner to give the Americans the lead once again, this time holding throughout the game.

The Killer Bees would put pressure on for much of the third period including playing the final 1:08 with an extra man on the ice but despite their numerous chances were unable to beat Chris Whitley for the equalizer as the Bees dropped their second one goal game of the season to the Allen Americans.

The Killer Bees will complete their series with the Laredo Bucks this weekend during a home-and-home series. The two games will kick-off Friday night in Laredo before returning to the State Farm Arena Saturday night. The Bees currently hold a 17-15 Cricket Mayor's Cup standings.
