Rapid City Rush News Release
(Rapid City, SD) - The Rapid City Rush won their fourth game in five tries on Friday night, kicking off their two-week road trip in thrilling fashion with a 4-3 win over the Allen Americans. Rush veterans Scott Wray and Damian Surma each lit the lamp twice, including Wray's game winner in the overtime period. The Rush now make the short trip to Fort Worth for a game against the Brahmas tomorrow at 6:35pm MST. The game can be heard on Rush flagship station, 100.3 the FOX or online at foxradio.com.
The Rush struck first on the fourteenth goal of the season from veteran winger Scott Wray. After a chip-in from Jesse Schultz, Jared Brown poked the puck loose to Wray who stepped behind the net and slammed in a wrap around for the 1-0 lead. The Americans evened the score on their first powerplay of the game when Kale Kerbashian snapped a wrist shot home from the right circle to extend his point streak to five games.
Just over five minutes into the second period, Jarret Lukin capitalized on a turnover that led to a breakaway for a shorthanded goal, the first allowed by the Rush this season. Despite giving up a goal, the Rush took advantage of the same powerplay on Damian Surma's tenth goal of the season to even the score 2-2 after forty minutes.
The Americans took their second lead of the game midway through the third period on a Jason Deitsch deflection of a Mike Berube shot from the point. The lead lasted less than three minutes until Surma collected his second of the night on a laser from the top of the left circle that forced overtime.
The Rush had yet to have a game decided in overtime this season, but Scott Wray changed that 3:33 into the extra frame. After a strong rush up the ice by defenseman Jordan Behler led to a backhand that was denied, Wray followed up with a rebound from the goal mouth that lifter the Rush to the 4-3 triumph.
