Bakersfield Condors News Release

LAS VEGAS - The Las Vegas Wranglers brought an end to the Bakersfield Condors 2008-09 season with a 5-1 victory in front of 5,244 fans at Orleans Arena Wednesday night. Vegas wins the series, 4-games-to-3 and sets up a matchup in the second round against the Stockton Thunder.

Back-to-back two-man advantages in the opening minutes of the game provided Vegas with the early lead. D Chris St. Croix got his first of the playoffs at 6:01 to make it 1-0. Later in the frame the Condors appeared to tie it up during a goalmouth scramble, but the goal was waved off after it was ruled to follow a hand pass. Less than a minute later it was 2-0, as C Chris Nieszner got his first of the playoffs. Shots were 12-10 in the period in favor of the Wranglers.

Neiszner notched his second of the night just 1:42 into the middle frame, snapping home a wrist shot from the bottom of the left circle. The Condors showed some life with a power play goal at 11:32 by LW Mark Derlago, his sixth of the playoffs. But on the next shift, Bakersfield went shorthanded again and the Wranglers converted. LW Dan Riedel ripped home a power play tally to make it 4-1, and D Dan Spang notched his third of the playoffs at 18:12 to make it 5-1 after two.

Neither team got on the board in the final frame. Bakersfield outshot the Wranglers 14-4 in the period, but G Glenn Fisher was there when his team needed him. He stopped 31 shots in the game and was 3-1 in the series. G Yutaka Fukufuji finished the night with 23 saves in the loss for Bakersfield.
