Wranglers Sign Defenseman Mat Deschamps

Las Vegas, NV - The Las Vegas Wranglers announced today that they have signed defenseman Mat Deschamps to a standard player contract.

Deschamps, 29, has played five seasons professionally. In 249 ECHL games, the Poughkeepsie, New York, native has accumulated ten goals and 50 assists to go along with 295 penalty minutes. His best season came in 2007-08 for the Mississippi Sea Wolves, where he totaled 22 points (2 goals, 20 assists). Deschamps also appeared in two games in the American Hockey League with the Cleveland Barons during the 2005-06 season.

"Mat is a player I am very familiar with from his time in Fresno." said Wranglers General Manager and Head Coach Ryan Mougenel. "He is a hard worker and a dependable defenseman, and I will feel very comfortable having him on the ice."

Prior to turning pro, the 6' 1", 195 lb. defenseman played four years at the University of Maine where he totaled three goals and 13 assists in 111 collegiate contests. During his tenure, the Black Bears finished second in two appearances in the Frozen Four (2002, 2004). Deschamps will wear #6 for the Wranglers.
