Las Vegas Wranglers News Release
Las Vegas, NV- The Las Vegas Wranglers® announced that the team has agreed to terms with right wing Marco Peluso and defenseman Jason Dest for the 2007-08 season. Per club policy, terms of the deals are not disclosed.
"Marco Peluso is a player who can be a factor every night on the ice," said Wranglers General Manager / Head Coach Glen Gulutzan. "He's going to be looked at as a leader on a young team this season. We expect him to blossom this season and make some major contributions. Jason Dest is a very steady stay at home defenseman who should help us out a lot in our own end. He was a leader at a major college program for years."
Peluso enters his third professional season, all with the Wranglers. During the 2006-07 campaign, Peluso scored 15 goals and totaled 35 points in 53 games played. The Bovey, MN native finished sixth on the team in scoring and sixth with 72 penalty minutes. For his career, Peluso has 33 goals and 47 assists for 80 points in 121 games. In 2005-06, Peluso was named to the National Conference All-Star Team. The 5-10, 180-pound winger, ranks ninth on the Wranglers all-time scoring list and tenth on the team's all-time games played list.
"I'm excited to be back in Vegas," said Peluso. "It's been such a great place to play and I am comfortable here. We have fallen short here two years in a row and I think it's time we got over the hump and brought a Kelly Cup to Las Vegas. There are a lot of new faces and it will be up to the veterans to provide the leadership this team needs to make a run."
Dest, enters his first season of professional hockey after playing the last four years at the University of Michigan. During his senior season, Dest acted as the team's alternate captain while posting collegiate highs for points with 11. Dest leaves Michigan sixth on the school's all-time list for career games played with 164. The Fraser, MI native scored five goals and added 30 assists for 35 points over his collegiate career. The 22-year old also posted a +37 rating over four years, including a +23 during his sophomore season.
The Wranglers are expected to make more announcements regarding player signings over the next few days. Defensemen Jason Dest, Aaron Power, Gerry Burke, Jason Krischuk and Jason Jozsa, as well as forwards Matt Byrnes, Marco Peluso and Brandon Kaleniecki have all agreed to terms for the 2007-08 season.
