Wranglers 2024 NAHL Draft Recap

Amarillo, TX - The 2024 NAHL Draft on June 12, 2024 has concluded with the Wranglers making seven selections, adding four forwards, two defenseman, and one goaltender.

In the first round, the Wranglers selected defenseman Salvatore Cerrato with the 22nd overall pick.

Cerrato, 20, was named the NCDC's 2023 New England Division Defenseman of the Year with the South Shore Kings putting up an impressive 7 goals and 37 assists in 50 games. He was second among NCDC defenseman in league scoring and second in assists, and will provide offensive support from the blue line for the Wranglers. While putting up impressive offensive numbers, he was also proven to be very solid defensively with a +30 rating and leading the Kings with 621 takeaways in 2023-24.

In the second round, the Wranglers picked up their first forward of the draft selecting Aiden Dres 57th overall.

Dres stands at 6'3 ‚¬Â³, 212 lbs and is a native of Quebec, Canada. In 2023-24 he was over a point per game player, scoring 14 goals and 10 assists in 22 games with the Rockland Nationals of the Central Canada Hockey League.

"Aiden is a veteran Jr. A player that plays with grit and skill. He will be relied on for his leadership and playing in all important situations," said Wranglers President of Hockey Operations and GM, Harry Mahood.

The Wranglers drafted forward Andrew Morton with the 92nd overall pick in the third round, adding another sizeable forward with the ability to score.

Morton stands at 6'1 ‚¬Â³, 185 lbs and is a native of Ontario, Canada. In 2023-24 he was over a point per game player, scoring 24 goals and 40 assists in 51 games with the Renfrew Wolves of the Central Canada Hockey League.

"Andrew has the ability to be a dominating power forward and lead our team on and off the ice. Fans will gravitate to his fire and physical play," said Harry Mahood.

Still on the clock, the Wranglers selected goaltender Charlie Zolin 93rd overall with the the pick acquired from the Maine Nordiques (originally belonging to New Mexico) in the Connor McNaughton Trade.

Zolin, 19, stands at 6'1 ‚¬Â³ and 181 lbs is a native of Greenwich, CT. He played 49 games between the Camrose Kodiaks of the AJHL and the Prince George Spruce Kings of the BCHL in 2023-24.

"Charlie is a veteran BCHL Jr. A goalie who has the ability to be a D1 goalie in the future," said Mahood.

With the 197th pick in the draft, the Wranglers selected Swedish forward Alexander Aleslöv.

Aleslöv, 20, stands at 5'10" and 183 lbs and is a native of Arboga, Sweden. He was an alternate captain for Västerås IK J20 club in Sweden, where he scored 5 goals and 4 assists in 2023-24.

"Alex is a North American style player that covers all 17,000 square feet of the ice. He will be a fan favorite," said Mahood.

In the 7th round, fan favorite Divyne Apollon returns to Amarillo with the Wranglers selecting him with the 232nd overall pick.

Apollon, 19, stands at 6'3 ‚¬Â³, 220 lbs and is a native of Seat Pleasant, MD. Divyne returns to Amarillo after appearing in 33 games with the Wranglers from 2022-2024. Wranglers fans have come to love him for his unmatched energy and physicality, and will be delighted to see him return to the Texas Panhandle.

"Divyne has been training diligently with Evander Kane's father in Vancouver, BC. We have an identity and culture in Amarillo that Divyne has helped to build. We believe he can be a dominating power forward and answer any bell that rings for the next two seasons," said Mahood.

With their final selection in the draft, the Wranglers selected defenseman Tootoo Fotheringham in the 8th round with the 267th overall pick.

Fotheringham, 20, is a native of Winnipeg, Manitoba, and stands at 5'11", 190 lbs. He scored 3 goals and 20 assists in 46 games with the NA3HL's Willmar WarHawks.

"Tootoo is a player we have followed very closely the last few seasons and comes highly recommended from his Willmar Warhawk AC Connor White. We believe he can be a force in the South Division and provide important leadership, physical play, and toughness," said Mahood.

With the conclusion of the draft, the Wranglers will turn their attention to Main Camp later on in the summer, while fans will eagerly await the release of the 2024-25 NAHL Schedule on June 13th.
