April 23, 2007 - ECHL (ECHL) News Release

PRINCETON, N.J. - The Las Vegas Wranglers extended their winning streak to 18 games with a 2-1 win at Idaho in Game 1 of the National Conference Semifinals in the Kelly Cup Playoffs, tying the professional hockey league record for consecutive wins set by the Peoria Rivermen of the International Hockey League, who won 18 regular season games in a row from Oct. 6-Nov. 23, 1990.

Game 2 will be played at 9:10 p.m. ET on Monday at Qwest Arena in Boise, Idaho.

Las Vegas has won its first five games in the Kelly Cup Playoffs after closing out the regular season with 13 straight wins. The previous ECHL record for longest winning streak, including playoffs, in the ECHL was 12 games by Richmond (1 regular-season game, 11 playoff games) from Apr. 4-May 15, 1999). The longest regular season winning streak in the ECHL is 14 games by Louisiana (Nov. 23-Dec. 22, 2001) and Knoxville (Dec. 28, 1993-Jan. 29, 1994). The 13-game regular season streak by the Wranglers from Mar. 10-Apr. 7, 2007 is the third-longest in league history.

The longest winning streak, including playoffs, in the National Hockey League is 15 games by Detroit (9 regular-season games, 6 playoff games) from Feb. 27-Apr. 5, 1955 and New Jersey (11 regular-season games, 4 playoff games) from Mar. 27-Apr. 29, 2006. The longest winning streak, including playoffs, in the American Hockey League is 15 games by Hershey (last 2 regular-season games of 1987-88, 12 playoff games, and first game of 1988-89).

Las Vegas' Mike McKenna has won his first three starts in the Kelly Cup Playoffs to extend his personal winning streak to 12 games and he needs one win to tie the ECHL record for longest winning streak, 13 games by Daniel Berthiaume of Roanoke in 1994-95. McKenna, who was 27-4-7 and led the ECHL with a goals-against average of 2.21 and a save percentage of .927, has tied the league record for second-longest winning streak set by Cory Cadden of Knoxville in 1993-94.
