
Kelly Cup Playoffs South Division Finals Open Tuesday

No. 1 Florida Everblades (44-22-6) vs. No. 2 Texas Wildcatters
(41-22-9)
PRINCETON, N.J. - After battling for supremacy in the South Division
throughout the regular season, the Florida Everblades and Texas Wildcatters
will battle for the division title in the Kelly Cup Playoffs, beginning
Tuesday at Germain Arena in Estero, Fla.
The South Division Finals are a best-of-seven series with the winner
advancing to meet the North Division Finals winner in the best-of-seven
American Conference Finals scheduled for May 7-19. Florida hosts Games 1
and 2 on Apr. 24 and 25 and Texas hosts Games 3 and 4 on Apr. 27 and 28.
Game 5, if necessary, would be played at Texas on Apr. 30. Game 6, if
necessary, would be played at Florida on May 4 and Game 7, if necessary,
would be at Florida on May 5.
Florida was 44-22-6 and finished atop the South Division and the American
Conference and tied for third place overall with 94 points. Texas was
41-22-9 and finished second in the South Division and the American
Conference and fifth overall with 91 points. The Wildcatters set team highs
with 41 wins, 21 home wins and 20 road wins and improved 46 points from
2005-06 which is the fifth-highest single-season point increase in ECHL
history.
The Everblades have not missed the Kelly Cup Playoffs since joining the
ECHL in 1998-99 and their nine consecutive appearances is the longest
active streak. Florida swept Charlotte in the division semifinals to
improve to 39-31 in the Kelly Cup Playoffs, including an 11-7 record in
Game 1 and a 10-6 record in Game 2. The Wildcatters are making their
first-ever postseason appearance since relocating to Beaumont in 2003-04
after missing last season in the aftermath of Hurricanes Katrina and Rita.
In the division semifinals, Texas beat Gwinnett in four games winning the
last two games at home in overtime.
Texas won the last three meetings to finish the regular season 4-0-1 at
home and 7-2-1 overall in 2006-07 against the Everblades. Brandin
Cote led the Wildcatters against Florida with two game-winning goals,
eight assists and 13 points in 10 games while Kevin
Baker (6g-6a) and Mike
Bayrack (6g-6a) tied for the team lead in goals and tied for second in
scoring. Brent
McDonald led the Everblades with two shorthand goals, four assists and
eight points in eight games against Texas.
