WR Kris Peters sets Quad City Steamwheelers Career Receiving Touchdown Record in 60-54 Victory

(Moline, Ill.) - Wide Receiver Kris Peters set the Steamwheelers career receiving touchdown record on his fourth touchdown reception of the night as the Quad City Steamwheelers (5-5) defeated the Mahoning Valley Thunder (2-8) in a come from behind victory in front of 3,661 at the i wireless Center. Backup quarterback Brian Zbydniewski replaced starter J.J. Raterink at halftime as Raterink suffered an injury late in the second quarter. With the "Wheelers training by a touchdown, 27-20, at the half, Zbydniewski came in and threw four touchdown passes for 147 yards on 11 completions.

As the teams traded touchdowns the second half the 'Wheelers tied the contest for just the third time on the night when Jesse Schmidt hauled in an 11-yard strike with 2:02 remaining in the contest. On the very next play, Lavar Stepter forced a fumble by Mahoning Valley's quarterback, Davon Vinson that was recovered in the end zone by Adam Vogel to give the Steamwheelers its first lead since the team led 6-0 to start the first quarter, at 60-54. On the ensuing drive, the 'Wheelers defense forced a Thunder four and out and the 'Wheelers ran out the clock for the victory.

Before leaving the game due to an injury Raterink had thrown for two touchdowns and 120 yards on 13 completions. Peters, the Schutt Offensive Player of the Game and the JLS Ironman of the Game, finished with five touchdowns on 186 yards and 12 catches. Schmidt's game tying touchdown late in the contest was his only TD reception on the night, but he added 55 yards and six grabs in the game, while also rushing for a touchdown. On defense, Jordan Davis finished with a team-high 6.5 tackles and four pass break-ups.

Davon Vinson, making his first start for the Thunder, threw for seven touchdowns and 285 yards on 25 completions. Clenton Rafe caught five of the TD tosses, while tallying 164 yards on 10 catches. On defense, the ADT Defensive Player of the Game, Melvin Matlock registered a game-high 8.5 touchdowns while also notching an interception.
