Wotherspoon Reassigned to Bridgeport

BRIDGEPORT, Conn. - The Bridgeport Sound Tigers announced today defenseman Parker Wotherspoon has been reassigned by the New York Islanders from the Tri-City Americans of the Western Hockey League (WHL) to Bridgeport.

Wotherspoon, 19, led Tri-City defensemen in scoring this season with a career-high 66 points (10 goals, 56 assists) in 69 games, while serving as an alternate captain for the second straight year. He was named to the WHL All-Star team and also recorded one assist in four playoff games.

A native of Surrey, British Columbia, Wotherspoon completed a four-year career with the Americans with 182 points (32 goals, 150 assists) in 279 contests. He also made his professional debut with the Sound tigers on April 3, 2016, producing one assist in six games with Bridgeport near the end of last season. In addition, Wotherspoon won a Bronze Medal with Team Canada at the 2015 Under-18 World Junior Championships and a Silver Medal with Canada-Pacific at the 2014 World Under-17 Hockey Challenge.

Wotherspoon was selected by the Islanders in the fourth round (112th overall) of the 2015 NHL Entry Draft. He agreed to a three-year, entry-level contract with the Islanders on May 2, 2016.

The 6'0, 175-pound blue-liner is the younger brother of Calgary Flames defenseman Tyler Wotherspoon.
