Worcester prevails over Spirit

North Shore Spirit News Release
In a game that lasted over five hours, the Worcester Tornadoes outlasted the North Shore Spirit 9-4 Wednesday night.
John Kelly (7-4) took the loss for North Shore. Kelly allowed two earned runs over six innings, but was victimized by poor Spirit defense. Tornadoes starter Derell McCall (3-3) was credited with the victory.
The two teams traded runs in the first. Worcester leadoff Josh Beauregard doubled and scored two batters later on a groundout by Yohanny Valera.
The Spirit responded quickly in the bottom half of the inning. Marcos Agramonte singled and stole second, his 17th theft of the season. Vic Davilla picked up his 45th RBI of the year with a groundout that plated Agramonte with the game-tying run.
The rains then hit, delaying the game for over an hour. When play resumed, North Shore grabbed the lead thanks to some clutch two-out hitting by Davilla. After the first two hitters had been retired, Rob Fischer looped a single into shallow right. Davilla then came through with a ringing RBI double to the gap in right center, scoring Fischer and giving the Spirit the 2-1 advantage.
The Tornadoes pushed a pair of runs across against Kelly in the fourth thanks to an RBI basehit from designated hitter Chris Colabello. Worcester tacked on another an inning later when catcher Alex Trezza couldn't handle a Kelly offering, allowing Lucas Taylor to scamper home from third.
North Shore got one back in the fifth. Agramonte tripled and scored on a pass ball by Danilo Reynoso. Worcester answered with a run in the sixth and four more in the seventh. Taylor picked up a couple RBI's with a sac fly and a bases loaded walk. Josh Beauregard's RBI basehit increased the Tornadoes lead to 9-3.
Travis Oglesby hit a solo homerun in the eighth, his 15th of the year, to close out the scoring.
The Spirit are back in action Thursday night when they welcome the Elmira Pioneers to Fraser Field. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 pm.
