Brockton Rox News Release

BROCKTON, MA - The Worcester Tornadoes knocked out two home runs and received five scoreless innings from its bullpen in a 5-2 win over the Rox on Saturday night at Campanelli Stadium. The Tornadoes win sets up a rubber-match on Sunday at 5:05 PM in Brockton.

Worcester never trailed after getting a first-inning solo home run from RF Carlos Sosa. Sosa also drove in a run with a single in the third inning, as the Worcester offense scored three runs in the first three innings against Rox starter RHP Freddy Flores.

Flores settled in however and allowed just on hit from the end of the third inning until a leadoff single in the seventh. He allowed three runs on five total hits with two walks and four strikeouts in seven total innings of work.

The Rox tied the game at 1-1 on LF Palmer Karr's sacrifice fly in the bottom of the first inning against Worcester's RHP Chris Farley. Farley also allowed a two-out RBI double to 2B Melvin Falu in the fourth inning which pulled Brockton within a run. During that inning, the Worcester trainer visited the mound and although Farley finished the frame, he did not emerge for the fifth.

The Worcester bullpen then took over a one-run lead, and delivered five scoreless innings. The Rox only hit was another two-out double by Falu in the bottom of the ninth.

By that point though, the Tornadoes had extended the lead to 5-2, thanks to an opposite field two-run home run by DH Alex Pena in the top of the ninth off of Rox reliever RHP Keith Noe.

Worcester's RHP Anthony Sullivan recorded his eighth save of the year with a scoreless ninth inning.

The Rox and Tornadoes square off on Sunday in the series rubber-match. Brockton's LHP Fraser Robinson (6-2, 3.97 ERA) will face Worcester's LHP Ryan Lobban (8-4, 3.87 ERA). Sunday's first pitch is scheduled for 5:05 PM.
