Worcester Tornadoes News Release
BROCKTON, MA---Five runs of offense was enough on this night for the Tornadoes to buck a four game losing streak. With RBI's from expected and non-expected sources the Tornadoes win 5-2.
Carlos Sosa became the first member of the Tornadoes squad to reach double-digits in longs balls when he crushed his tenth to dead center field in the top of the first inning with one out against Freddy Flores (3-3). The Rox would fire right back however with a sacrifice fly from their big bat Palmer Karr in the bottom half.
It was Sosa again in the third against Flores with a two-run single scoring Vinny Pennell and Mike MacMillan. Flores would pitch seven allowing just the three runs in the tough luck loss.
Chris Farley's last inning would be the fourth when he gave up a pair of doubles to Keith Brachold and Melvin Falu (RBI). The training staff and Rich Gedman visited Farley in the middle of that inning after appearing to have pain in the lower right portion of his back. Nick Conway (2-2) stepped in with a scoreless fifth and sixth to pick up his second win. Looking for insurance in the top of the ninth leading 3-2, starting pitcher turned DH Alex Pena stepped to the plate. After going 0-3 in his first at-bats, A. Pena went the other way with a bomb to right field scoring Nick Salotti. It was Pena's first homerun of the year in his first start as a hitter. Alex hit .438 last season in sixteen at-bats, including a HR and three doubles.
Anthony Sullivan reclaimed his closing role, retiring the side for his eighth save of the season, first since returning to the Tornadoes roster last Wednesday.
Tomorrow a 5:05 start from Campanelli Stadium will see Ryan Lobban (8-4) try for a ninth win against Brockton lefty Frasor Robinson (6-2).
