Woods dazzles as Rox end skid

Brockton, Mass. - Zach Woods

(2-1) played the roll of stopper Wednesday night at Campanelli Stadium with his best outing of the season, as the Brockton Rox (22-21, 48-41) topped the Pittsfield Colonials (24-18, 49-39) 2-0 to end a losing streak of seven straight.

Woods dominated through seven and 2/3 innings of work, allowing only two hits, walking two and striking out eight.

The righthander finished the month of August giving up just one run in 22 innings, while dropping his season ERA to 1.17.

On the opposite side, Chad Paronto (9-7) gave a stellar effort for

Pittsfield, but came up short after allowing two runs on five hits in the first two frames, before sitting down 14 straight later in the ballgame.

Paronto went the distance in the loss, tossing eight innings and striking out two.

Keith Brachold

had a two hit night, leading the way for

Brockton

offensively.

The Rox rightfielder smacked a two-out double in the first and came around to score on an RBI single by Phillip Cuadrado.

Brockton

made it 2-0 in the second when Shawn Williams came home on a ground out by Chris Grossman.

Jake Hale

(15) worked a perfect ninth to earn his 15th save, tying him with Jeff Gogal for second in the Can-Am League.

by one half game in the race for the final playoff spot heading into Thursday's series finale with

Pittsfield

Dustin Birosak (7-1, 2.86) takes the ball for

Brockton

in the rubber match, while David Qualben (6-7, 4.02) gets the call for the Colonials.
