Quebec 6, New York 2 (Game 1 - Completion of Suspended Game from August 30)
Quebec used a three-run fifth inning to earn a 6-2 win against New York in the completion of a suspended game. Both starting pitchers, John Mariotti of Quebec and Jim Schult of New York, worked three scoreless innings on Tuesday night before rain suspended play. The Capitales finally broke the deadlock in the bottom of the fifth when 2B Seth Henry's RBI sacrifice fly scored SS Jeff Helps. Later in the inning, CF Goefrey Tomlinson scored on a New York error, and 1B Rene Leveret hit an RBI single to give Quebec a 3-0 lead. Quebec added another run in the sixth inning on C Patrick D'Aoust's RBI sacrifice fly. In the eighth frame, LF Robert Wagner hit a solo home run, and Henry picked up his second RBI of the game on another sacrifice fly. Quebec pitcher Guillaume Duguay pitched three scoreless innings in relief while surrendering just two hits to earn the win. New York DH Dan Coury hit a two-run home run in the top of the ninth, but the Federals' comeback fell short as Quebec took the 6-2 win.
Quebec 6, New York 0 (Game 2 - Regularly Scheduled Game/7 Innings)
Quebec C Patrick D'Aoust batted in four runs to lead the Capitales to a 6-0 victory over New York in the regularly scheduled game. D'Aoust went 2-for-3 at the plate with an RBI single in the bottom of the fourth and a bases-clearing three-RBI triple in the bottom of the sixth. Also for Quebec, DH Pete Laforest had a hit and scored three times, and RF Sebastien Boucher went 1-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored. Capitales starting pitcher Ryan DiPietro earned the win for his scoreless six innings pitched. DiPietro struck out four hitters and scattered four hits.
Brockton 2, Pittsfield 0
Brockton Rox starting pitcher Zach Woods worked 7.2 scoreless innings pitched to help lead the Rox to a 2-0 victory against the visiting Pittsfield Colonials. Woods surrendered just two hits and fanned eight hitters to earn his second win of the season. Brockton scored both their runs early, plating one in the first and the other in the second frame. In the first inning, Rox 3B Phillip Cuadrado hit an RBI single that scored RF Keith Brachold. Rox C Chris Grossman batted in 1B Shawn Williams in the second inning to double Brockton's lead. For Brockton, Brachold went 2-for-4, including a double, in addition to his run scored. Rox closer Jake Hale worked a 1-2-3 ninth to earn the save. For Pittsfield, CF Jerod Edmonson and 1B Angel Molina each had a hit in the loss.
New Jersey 7, Newark 2
Trailing 2-0, New Jersey struck for five runs in the bottom of the fourth as the Jackals went on to defeat the Newark Bears 7-2. Jackals CF Sean M. Smith started the scoring in the pivotal five-run fourth by drawing a bases-loaded walk that scored 3B Nick Giarraputo. Also in the inning, Jackals RF Bryan Sabatella hit a two-RBI single, DH Myron Leslie batted in a run and 1B Sandy Madera tripled in a run. For New Jersey, Sabatella had a team-high three RBI, and Smith chipped in with two RBI and three runs scored. New Jersey starting pitcher Isaac Pavlik allowed two runs in six innings and earned the win. Pavlik struck out 13 batters and allowed six hits. For the Bears, 3B Paddy Matera and SS Chase Fontaine each had a hit and an RBI in the loss.
Worcester 4, Rockland 3
Worcester rallied for four runs in the bottom of the eighth to defeat Rockland 4-3. The Boulders scored a run in the top of the first and then added a run in the seventh and eighth inning to take a 3-0 lead. Boulders 3B Ryan Mollica went 2-for-4 with an RBI in the game. Trailing 3-0, the Tornadoes struck for four runs in the bottom of the eighth. Tornadoes LF Alex A. Nunez hit an RBI double. Three batters later, 3B Mark Minicozzi drew a walk with the bases loaded to cut Rockland's lead to one run. Worcester C Alex Trezza then hit a two-RBI single to complete the comeback and give Worcester a 4-3 lead. In the top of the ninth, Worcester reliever Albert Ayala worked a 1-2-3 ninth and struck out two hitters to earn the save. Tornadoes reliever Mike Mullen was credited with the win for his 0.2 innings pitched.
