Fayetteville, NC - The Fayetteville Woodpeckers (23-28) took three separate leads on Sunday afternoon and eventually edged out the Fredericksburg Nationals (25-25) 6-5 to take the six-game series at Segra Stadium. It marks the first time this season that the Woodpeckers have won a series at home.

The first lead of the day came quickly in the bottom of the first inning against Nationals starter Brandan Collins. Kenedy Corona punched a leadoff double into right field while Leosdany Molina and Logan Cerny loaded the bases with walks. After a pair of strikeouts, Cody Orr came through with a two-run single to left field for the lead.

Fredericksburg tied the game 2-2 with a pair of runs against Rhett Kouba in the second inning. In the bottom half, Logan Cerny drew a bases loaded walk to give Fayetteville their second lead at 3-2.

Viandel Pena tied the game again with a solo home run off of Kouba in the third. Kouba pitched through the fourth and struck out three before turning the game over to Edinson Bautista (W, 2-2) in the fifth.

Tied 3-3 in the bottom of the fifth, Cerny drew a leadoff walk against Marlon Perez (L, 0-2). Joey Loperfido reached on a single and the pair of baserunners executed a successful double steal while Justin Williams was at the plate. The throw from the catcher went to second base and sailed into center field, scoring Cerny for a 4-3 lead. Williams followed up the throwing error with a single that scored Loperfido, jumping the game to 5-3.

Clinging to a 5-4 lead in the bottom of the sixth, Cerny provided a key run with an RBI single that scored Leosdany Molina for a 6-4 advantage.

Bautista preserved the lead the rest of the way, allowing an RBI single to Leoandro Emiliani in the seventh, but followed it up with a scoreless eighth and ninth inning. The 20-year-old right-hander worked through five complete innings, allowed a lone earned run and struck out three.

Following an off day on Monday, the Woodpeckers will head to Salisbury, MD for a six-game series against the Delmarva Shorebirds. The series will mark the first meeting between the two sides in their respective franchise history. First pitch on Tuesday is scheduled for 7:05 pm ET.
