Down East Wood Ducks News Release
Fredericksburg were first to score tonight with three runs through the first two innings of play, as the Woodies failed to put up runs through the first two innings. Will Frizzle for the Nationals singled with two outs in the first and Branden Boissiere stepped up to the plate and delivered a two run shot. In the second, T.J. White doubled to leadoff with Christopher De La Cruz driving him in on a triple to left center.
The Woodies got on the board in the bottom of the third with Junior Paniagua reaching on a walk, advancing to second on a balk, and Maximo Acosta hitting a RBI double to left, after starter Winston Santos struck out two of the three outs that he got in the top half of the inning.
Maximo Acosta stole third base and came home on an errant throw by the catcher to make the game 3-2, Nationals up.
The Nationals quickly extended the lead to 4-2 in the top of the fourth after two Woodies errors and a single allowed Diaz to third, where he scored on a groundout from Yoander Rivero. The Woodies were kept quiet until the bottom of the sixth, where they took the lead 5-4, as Cauley reached on a single and Liam Hicks doubled to bring in Cauley from first. Miguel Villarroel cranked a two-run home run to left center. The Nationals responded with two runs of their own in the top of the seventh with Young scoring on a Frizzell single and Pena scoring on a 463 double play. The Woodies failed to mount a comeback in their last three at bats and lost 6-5.
