
Wood Ducks Suffer Shutout Loss

Down East Wood Ducks News Release
Kinston, N.C. - The most exciting news for Woodies fans today was, the Down East Wood Ducks had their first jersey giveaway this season! The Shorebirds started with a three up, three down in the first inning. The Wood Ducks left Brock stranded after he hit a single line drive to right field. It was the same story for the second inning for both teams. Delmarva went three up, three down, and the Woodies stranded one after a single live drive to centerfield by Blackmon. The Shorebirds go up 1-0 in the third inning due to a homerun from Urman. The Woodies were able to get a baserunner, but they are ultimately left stranded.
The Shorebirds had a busy 4th inning. The Shorebirds started off with a single from Tejada to left field followed by Estrada reaching on a fielder's choice and Tejada advanced to 2nd. The Wood Ducks had an error by the 2nd baseman (Alvarez) via a pickoff attempt. The Shorebirds have back-to- back doubles scoring Tejada, Estrada, and Acevedo. Urman was then walked, a wild pitch allowed runners to advance. Hernandez hit a groundout scoring one. The Woodies went three up, three down. Delmarva went up 5-0 after 4 innings. The Shorebirds started the 5th inning with a single from Sosa. Sosa was able to advance on a groundout. Estrada reached first on a throwing error from the Wood Ducks third baseman (Pollard), Sosa scored on the error. Woodies were still unable to get anything going. Delmarva went up 6-0 after 5 innings. The Shorebirds left several baserunners stranded in the 6th, and the Woodies left one stranded.
The Wood Ducks had a defensive switch and substitution in the 7th inning due to an injury to Cueva.
The Shorebirds again left one stranded as Tejada was able to reach first on an error by Disla. The story continued for the Wood Ducks as the again went three up, three down. Delmarva and the Woodies both left one stranded in the 8th. It was a quick 9th inning with the Shorebirds stranding one, and the Woodies unable to get a hit. Delmarva won 6-0.
Forret was awarded the win after pitching 5.0 innings with 3 hits, and 8 strikeouts for Delmarva.
Curtis earned the loss for the Wood Ducks (4.0 IP, 4 H, 5 K). Cueva for the Wood Ducks ended leaving the game early due to injury.
The Wood Ducks host the Delmarva Shorebirds for the final game of the series tomorrow at Historic Grainger Stadium located in Kinston, North Carolina. First pitch is set for 1:00 pm.
