
Wolves Topple Marlies, 5-1

TORONTO---The Chicago Wolves earned their largest margin of victory this season with a 5-1 win over the Toronto Marlies at Ricoh Coliseum Arena Sunday night.
Forwards Darren Haydar (2A), Patrice Cormier (G, A) and defenseman Mark Matheson (G, A) paced the team with two points each, while forwards Nigel Dawes, Jared Ross and Andrew Kozek added the other tallies for Chicago (13-13-1-0).
The Wolves opened scoring 2:36 into the first period when center Jason Krog left the puck at the top of the right faceoff circle for Dawes, who ripped a shot past Toronto goaltender Jussi Rynnas.
Matheson fired a shorthanded shot from the slot past a screened Rynnas, top shelf, to bring the Wolves lead to 2-0, 18:44 into the opening frame.
The Wolves made their lead three in the opening minute of the second period when Cormier grabbed the loose puck outside of the crease and backhanded it into the net.
Chicago potted another shorthanded marker 15:25 into the middle frame. Ross drove towards the goal and slid the puck into net past Rynnas, stick side, to bring the score to 4-0.
Rynnas (6-6-2) blocked 31 shots for Toronto.
Toronto (14-9-0-3) answered the four-goal deficit with a power-play goal 18:10 into the second frame when defenseman Juraj Mikus knocked the rebounded puck past Chicago netminder Peter Mannino to make the score 4-1.
Mannino (8-4-0) stopped 21 of 22 shots in his fourth straight start this week.
Chicago closed out scoring, 5-1, 3:27 into the third period when Kozek took a pass from left wing Fredrik Pettersson in the slot and shot the puck into the empty side of the net.
The Wolves return to Chicago to face off against the San Antonio Rampage at the Allstate Arena on Wed., Dec. 8 at 7 p.m.
