The Chicago Wolves earned a 2-1 victory over Quad City on Sunday afternoon at Allstate Arena. The loss extends the Flames' winless skid to four games (0-2-1-1). Brett Sutter provided the Flames offense as he netted a first period shorthanded goal. With the loss, the Flames fall to 23-25-6-6 on the season.
Brett Sutter scored for the second consecutive game when he converted on a shorthanded breakaway at 6:05 of the first period. Sutter capitalized on a Chicago turnover and beat netminder Ondrej Pavelec by roofing a shot for his eight goal of the season. The tally was the only goal scored in the opening 20 minutes as the Flames took a 1-0 lead to the dressing room for the first intermission.
The Wolves scored two unanswered goals in the second period to move in front 2-1 after 40 minutes. Anderson netted the Wolves first goal when he and Joey Crabb broke into the Flames zone on a 2-on-0 breakaway while Chicago was shorthanded. Anderson beat Flames netminder Leland Irving to tie the game at one at 4:02 of the period. Three and a half minutes later Jordan LaVallee punched a backhander into the Quad City net to put the Wolves in front for the first time. It was LaVallee's 16th goal of the season and gave the Wolves a 2-1 lead after two periods.
The teams skated scoreless through the closing frame as Chicago held onto their one goal lead despite being outshot 13-12 in the third period and 40-32 for the game.
