Cleveland, OH - The Hamilton Bulldogs defeated the Lake Erie Monsters 3-1 on Sunday night. The win snapped Hamilton's three-game losing streak.
The Lake Erie Monsters opened the game's scoring 55 seconds into the first frame. T.J. Galiardi sent a pass to Chris Durno, who snapped a shot at the top of the far faceoff circle. The puck sailed past the blocker of Hamilton starting goaltender Cedrick Desjardins.
The Bulldogs tied the game 1-1 at 12:31 of the opening period. Yanick Lehoux fired a shot that was saved by Lake Erie starting goaltender Tyler Weiman. Weiman could not control the rebound, which bounced onto the stick of Steve Gainey, who shot the puck into the back of the net.
Hamilton took a 2-1 lead at 11:01 of the middle frame. Brock Trotter fed a pass to Lehoux, who skated between two Lake Erie defenders. Lehoux snapped a shot past the glove of Weiman for his first goal in nine games. Trotter scored at 12:10 to give the Bulldogs a 3-1 lead. Steve Gainey hustled to the Lake Erie blue line to keep the puck in the Monsters' zone before sending a pass to Brock Trotter to spring him on a breakaway.
