
Pirates Rough Up Devils 6-1

Portland, Maine - The Pirates took a key 6-1 win over the division rival Lowell Devils at the Cumberland County Civic Center. Kenny MacAulay had a goal and an assist and 14 different Pirates had a point.
The Pirates jumped all over the Devils in the first period. Felix Schutz got the first goal of the night 4:17 into the game when he found the rebound off a left wing wrister from Derek Whitmore and put it into the net with Devils goaltender Scott Clemmensen out of position on the far post. Whitmore and Bonneau assisted Schutz's 11th goal of the season. Portland extended the lead to 2-0 1:15 later when Dylan Hunter put a shot past Clemmensen with Tyler Bouck and Kenny MacAulay getting the helpers. Hunter's 3rd goal of the season came at 5:32 of the first. Later in the period Colton Fretter joined in the fun when he got a turnover in the offensive end and beat Clemmensen through the five hole from the right side. It was Fretter's 19th goal of the season at the 11:13 mark, and the tally was unassisted. After one period of play the Pirates held a 3-0 lead.
In the second period the Pirates extended their lead on a beautiful tic-tac-toe passing play that ended in Mark Mancari feeding Kenny MacAulay in front for a slam dunk goal. MacAulay's first career AHL goal came at 11:37 on the second period with Mancari and Marek Zagrapan getting the assists as Portland would take a 4-0 lead into the final frame. In the third period, the Devils tried to mount a comeback starting with an early power play. Nicklas Bergfors scored his 15th goal of the year by poking a rebound past Pirates goaltender Kellen Briggs. Alexander Vasyunov and Michael Swift picked up the assists. The Pirates answered right back though, with Aaron Slattengren scoring his 9th goal of the season just 37 seconds later. Tyler Bouck and Marc-Andre Gragnani picked up the assists. The Pirates tacked on one more whe Mathieu Darche scored his 19th goal of the season at the 9:21 mark. Nathan Gerbe and Kenny MacAulay grabbed assists on the play. Portland goaltender Kellen Briggs picked up the win, stopping 27 of 28 shots. Scott Clemmensen stopped 20 of 26 shots and took the loss.
