Chicago Wolves News Release

The Chicago Wolves have recalled defenseman JON AWE from the Gwinnett Gladiators of the ECHL.

AWE, who tallied an assist in Gwinnett's 5-4 overtime loss against the Alaska Aces last night, has recorded three helpers and a +4 plus/minus rating in four contests during two stints with Chicago this month, which includes posting an American Hockey League career-high two assists last Saturday. He was held scoreless in two AHL contests with the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins earlier this year.

The Memphis, Tenn., native leads the ECHL with 17 power-play goals, which is already a league record for a defenseman, and paces blueliners with 20 goals and 44 points in 37 games with the Gladiators this season. He participated in the 2007 ECHL All-Star Game festivities and set the record for the hardest shot in the Skills Competition on Jan. 16, with a blast of 102.2 mph.

The 26-year-old blueliner has appeared in 24 career AHL games with the Portland Pirates (2005-06), Providence Bruins (2005-06), Penguins and Wolves, collecting four assists and eight penalty minutes. He was named to the ECHL's All-Rookie Team last season after accruing 14 goals and 35 points in 49 tilts with the Gladiators during his professional debut.
