Wolves Split Weekend
February 9, 2015 - Ontario Hockey League (OHL)
Sudbury Wolves News Release
The Sudbury Wolves picked up a win and a loss on the road this weekend as the Wolves played the defending OHL champion Guelph Storm on Friday night and the first-place Barrie Colts on Saturday night. The Wolves played a solid road game on Friday and recorded a 4-3 victory over the Storm. On Saturday, the Wolves were listless in losing 7-1 to the high-flying Barrie Colts.
Travis Wood scored the game winner for the Wolves in Guelph and Troy Timpano made 43 saves as the 17 year old goaltender saved the day for the Wolves. The Storm fired 25 shots on goal in the third period but only managed one goal by Tyler Bertuzzi. Brody Silk scored for the Wolves as did Ivan Kashtanov and Jacob Harris. With the exception of the third period, the Wolves played the Storm even over the first 40 minutes and deserved the win with a spirited effort. It was the first win for interim Head Coach David Matsos.
On Saturday, the Colts took a 2-0 lead after the first period and a 5-0 lead after the second period. Pavel Jenys spoiled the Colts' shut-out late in the third period to put the Wolves on the scoreboard. The Wolves looked tired and disinterested in competing against the Colts who continue to rack-up points and wins on the strength of overage forward Joseph Blandisi. Blandisi, Lebanc and Mangiapane continue to receive loads of icetime on the power play, even strength and on the penalty kill as the Colts look at scoring as many goals as possible each and every game - regardless of the score. Troy Timpano went the distance in goal for the Wolves and made a number of big saves to keep the Colts in single digits.
The Wolves will be looking at getting back to playing their improved style of play of late when they host the North Bay Battalion at 7:00 pm on Wednesday at the Sudbury Arena. The Wolves will host Max Domi and the London Knights on Friday night at 7:30 pm. Tickets are now on sale for both home games at the arena ticket office.
