
Wolves Select Jakub Vondraš in 2023 CHL Import Draft

(Greater Sudbury, ON) The Sudbury Wolves are pleased to announce that they have selected goaltender, Jakub Vondraš from Czechia in today's 2023 CHL Import Draft.
With the 22nd overall pick in the first round the Wolves selected goaltender Jakub Vondraš. During the 2022-23 season, Jakub played for the Czechia U20. Over the course of 29 regular season games, the 6'4, 190lbs, goalie posted a 18-10 record with a 2.19 GAA and .929 SV%.
"We are excited to have drafted Jakub Vondraš in today's draft," said Sudbury Wolves VP & General Manager Rob Papineau. "He is a goalie that we were hoping would be available at our pick. Jakub has NHL pedigree being drafted by the Carolina Hurricanes last year. He will be attending his second NHL camp this year, and we are excited to bring Jakub to Sudbury. He is a very sound, quick, athletic goaltender and he is enthusiastic about joining the Wolves organization."
"Sudbury is a great step for my hockey career," said Jakub Vondraš. "I believe together we will have a long season, as long as possible. This is great because I have big goals and I believe we can reach it together."
Jakub, chosen by the Carolina Hurricanes in the 6th round, 171st overall, during the 2022 NHL Draft. He displays great side-to-side movement and intelligence. As a right-handed goalie, Jakub's athleticism is evident in his quick limbs and ability to track pucks effectively. He has a high compete level and is resilient, never giving up on any pucks, showcasing impressive post-to-post movement. Prior to the 2022-23 season Jakub was a member of the 2021-22 Czechia U20 Champion team. In the regular season, he played 11 games with a 2.13 GAA along with a .915 SV%. His performance in the playoffs also included 16 games played, a 1.91 GAA, and a .935 SV%.
