Chicago Wolves News Release

ROSEMONT, Ill.---The Chicago Wolves rallied back from a 1-0 deficit then clung to a 2-1 lead for 29:28 behind a 19-save performance from goaltender Robert Gherson on the way to dropping the Syracuse Crunch, 2-1, at the Allstate Arena Sunday night.

Center Steve Martins and right wing Joey Crabb tallied goals for Chicago (7-2-1-1), while Gherson (1-0-0) continued the team's pattern of allowing an American Hockey League-low goals against, giving up just one marker in his season debut. The Wolves have surrendered more than two goals in a game just twice in the first 11 outings of the season, which includes posting two shutouts and holding foes to one goal three times.

The Wolves now lead the West Division and are tied for second in the league with 16 points this year, after entering the tilt deadlocked with Syracuse (7-2-0-0).

"A few key saves is the difference in a one-goal game and Gherson was very good tonight. That's a real credit to him and to his focus, having not played yet this season," said Wolves Head Coach Don Granato. "As a group we are playing much better together, much more in sync, and that's good to see."

The lone goal from the Crunch came 6:41 into the contest when right wing Maksim Mayorov flung a shot at Gherson, which the netminder blocked but coughed a rebound right onto the stick of Tom Sestito to give Syracuse an early 1-0 lead.

Martins brought the Wolves even, 1-1, at 12:53 of the first frame with his first goal of the season. The forward took a pass from blueliner Arturs Kulda in the middle of a scrum in front of the net and jammed it home.

Crabb gave Chicago it's first lead of the game, 10:32 into the second period when he took a pass from defenseman Grant Lewis and cranked it past Syracuse netminder Steve Mason, stick-side.

Mason (2-1-0) posted 20 saves in the loss.

The Wolves embark on a season-high six-game road swing, beginning with a matchup against the Providence Bruins at Dunkin' Donuts Center on Fri., Nov. 7 at 6 p.m.
