Watertown Wolves News Release

The Watertown Wolves saw a two-goal lead dissolve into an overtime loss at the Watertown Municipal Arena in the closing game of their home-and-home series with the Elmira Enforcers. In both games of the series Watertown had early leads that faded way to defeat.

Chris Williamson got the Wolves on the board first when Aleh Shypitsyn sent the puck to Tyler Gjurich who dropped back in the offensive zone to open a scoring window for him. Lane King extended the lead to two goals with a frenzy of white jerseys applying pressure to Elmira net-minder Troy Passingham. An interference penalty on Shypitsyn provided Mitch Atkins the opportunity to put the Enforcers on the board with just ninety seconds left in the period.

The Wolves did not let being a man down stop them from scoring the lone goal of the second period early on. Kyle Powell and Lane King got the puck to Tyler Gjurich who made a fast break to tickled twine. The goal was Gjurich's thirtieth goal of the season. The Wolves successfully killed three additional penalties to keep the 3-1 lead during the second twenty minutes of play.

The Enforcers came back in the third with two goals from Tyler Prendergrast and Ahmed Mahfouz to tie the game and send it to over time. Stepan Timofeyev just under 3 minutes into the overtime.

Three stars of the game went to Tyler Gjurich, Lane King, and Kyle Powell going 1-2-3 respectively.

The Wolves return the Watertown Municipal Arena Friday, February 1st to start a weekend series with the Port Huron Prowlers. The action starts at 7:30 pm.
