Wolves Expand Roster with Additions of Kurtz and Johnson

The Chicago Wolves have signed former National Hockey League defenseman JUSTIN KURTZ and right wing CHAZ JOHNSON.

KURTZ appeared in 27 NHL contests with the Vancouver Canucks in 2001-02, collecting three goals, five assists and 14 penalty minutes. Last season, the Winnipeg, Manitoba, native racked up 47 points (13G, 34A) in 50 games with Wolfsburg EHC of the Germany Elite League's Second Division.

Overall, the 29-year-old blueliner has posted 78 points (21G, 57A) and 135 penalty minutes in 127 career AHL matchups with the Saint John Flames (1997-98) and Manitoba Moose (2001-03). KURTZ has also appeared in 236 International Hockey League games, notching 80 points (26G, 54A) and 258 penalty minutes with the Las Vegas Thunder (1997-98) and Manitoba Moose (1998-2001).

JOHNSON made his professional debut last season, netting one goal and 12 penalty minutes in eight outings with the AHL's Milwaukee Admirals. The 22-year-old right wing also accrued 23 goals, 22 assists and 45 points in 66 tilts with the United Hockey League's Rockford IceHogs and ranked fourth among league rookies with 248 penalty minutes.

KURTZ and JOHNSON hit the ice when the Wolves open their 13th training camp at the Hoffman Estates Park District Community Center and Ice Arena on Thu., Sept. 21.
